helpless or hopeful

these are two of the dogs from Baldwin park, part of the evidence case. They have been there since last April, living in complete anguish and misery.
Crash the blond dog, is completely blind, could you imagine the uncertainty and how scared he must be, just hearing all of this noise all the time, wondering where he is at, what is going on and WHY! and my favourite, if you can tell, is the great dane, she didn't even look like a dog, she was so mangy, miserable and sick. she was too big for her kennel, she wouldn't even get up to get her treat, she would just lay there and shake and try to get get comfortable. Most of the dogs in that case are BIG dogs with no blankets or toys, heat. it is very wet and smelly. LONELY. This one CUTE white pit was so bored, he made this lil' white towel his friend and was playing with it trying to sway off boredom. My heart hurts so much for these 100 animals. it is not fair, but nikki and i have a plan. so hopefully we can make a difference! But in the meantime, there have been a few nice lovely people donate blankets for them, so we plan on getting lots of treats and as many blankets as possible and visiting them this week. the hardest part is leaving them there.
I will say a prayer for you my little friends. hang in there.

shady days.

It is weird...today has been such mixed emotion for me. I will start backwards...I just got home from work, i read my daily blog from today's arthur and learned one of my favourite dogs Nero wasn't adopted, he was moved to West LA. and i also just saw one of my other favourites was moved there too. I assumed with the big adoption weekend a couple weeks ago, there were adopted. I guess one learnes to NEVER ever assume. I felt so sad hearing this and then Nikki brought me back to reality... HE ISN'T DEAD! and yes! she is right! So we will network him and Rufus and get them OUT.
Gwen my favourite staffie was adopted today.
And.....I woke up in such a good mood, my lil' foster jack was asleep in the laundry basket, i had the biggest giggle, i love him! and then i decided i should check on some dogs on the shelter site. and i didn't see many of them ...3 were redlisted. i didn't call the shelter, i didn't want to know. i couldn't handle it today. My heart is heavy... i have been having so many dreams about the dogs at the shelter and it is hard seeing every day such saddness and feeling helpless. But again Nikki's words...we do what we can, even if it is just one, that is one more saved.

so onward we go, making more posters, networking more dogs, saving more lives...
doing what we can and beyond.

(Gwen rescued by Villalobos Rescue Center)

And now we have 3 of our own that need so much money for surgery's. I am staying positive, knowing that the universe will provide, there is not an alternative.

a furry flurry

(This is Francie McManus, she needs the surgery for her back legs)

what a week! We have had many adventures going on our hikes each day! every day a different hike and different dogs, we are starting a new hiking dog blog giving our adventure stories and pictures...so exciting.

We had a vet appt. yesterday...Francie mcmanus needs surgery on both back legs, she has fluxating putella, so we need over 1000 for each leg, we are going to make a website page and flyer to receive donations. She can't walk properly without the surgery and it could become very painful if arthritis develops.
AND THEN we have to fundraise for one of our blind puppies who has juvenile cataracts, which is very painful, there was one vet visit who said it would cost 10000, we are getting a second opinion and will make a page and flyer for that to fundraise as well. All the vet information will be posted and also donations can be made directly to the vet if desired.
also...
We have had quite a few medical issues with our other rescues lately and it is
very hard to keep up financially!
our new rescue Farrah needs surgery, her legs are bad, we are getting that assessed,, the wrinkle faced puppy had a cyst that had to be removed and a double hematoma.

SOOO needless to say this is frustrating and lots of work to be done for these little ones.

Also busyness for the shelter dogs, we need to start making new posters for the rest of the dog pictures we have because now they are ALL on the "AT RISK" list.

We have had some replies about the blankets for baldwin park which is soo nice!
Thank you to everyone for your incredible generosity!

off to work now!!

worry.

I am worrying so much about darol, my stomach is starting to hurt. I know we aren't supposed to do that, we deal with a lot of dogs, issues and situations, and we have to be strong and level headed through all of it. But darol doesn't deserve this, he has been in and out of the shelter for a long time. Why wouldn't these people hire a trainer, why wouldn't they consider all dogs don't like cats, BUT it can be worked on with training. Why would they give this dog hope only to rip his spirit into shreds once again. I don't want to sound like I am judging, but when people make a commitment to adopt and after one day decide it won't work, that doesn't give the dog any amount of time to adjust or figure out anything. I mostly just really feel bad for darol. It just isn't fair to him. He would have been better off staying in the shelter, especially through their big adoption weekend. But it is done. I have networked throught myspace, and the rescue boards, but i don't know. i feel helpless, i don't have room for him, but him going back to the shelter is a death ticket. the sad thing is he looks sooo happy in the picturs she posted on his plea. THIS IS HEARTBREAKING
my heart feels very sad today. we are going to make an educational page on our website to inform people of trainers and what all entails having a dog, even through medical and other issues. I hope this lil' guy gets help
Please can anyone help him?

feeling lonely.

I am soooo in love with this girl. Her and Gwen are just breaking
my heart, i will post gwen soon. I wonder if this sweet one has
ever felt love in her whole life. they say she might have mange, but
she remdinds us of one of those hairless peruvian dogs. she is just amazing,
I wish i had more room, i would take her home and smother her with kisses.
she seems so lonely in the ISO room in the small kennel, really with no room to stretch her legs. I want to help her so bad. i hope i can.

They say she is a staffie, looks more like a shep mix to me.
here are the LAAS stats:
PRINCESS - ID#A853372

My name is Princess and I am a spayed female,
brown Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix.
The shelter thinks I am about 11 years old.

love is in the air....

  • the mutt scouts

  • the mutt scouts myspace

  • well today we are officially certified in Pet CPR and First Aide. wheww! that was a
long class and then off to see Cesar Millan at South La animal shelter for the Big Paw Match day! lots of dogs got new homes, however, I checked the site for the dogs we have been networking at North Central and none of them were adopted.
we have given people enough time to breathe the last few days, time to start hardcore networking again! and then next off to Lancaster and Baldwin park, those shelters are so overcrowded, even having up to 7 dogs to a cage. It is saddening, it is crowded enough with 3 to a cage and sadly those are extremely high kill due to the lack of people that go and adopt and they have some of the best dogs.

    Darol and Cinnamon girl

Nikki and I went to the shelter today. lots more pictures, so that means
lots more networking. I can't wait to have our sanctuary so we can help more
dogs. Lots of planning in the works in the next couple years. But we want this
more than anything. A place for disabled and unwanted animals, a place for them
to stay while intransition to finding amazing homes, a place to train and feel peaceful.

    Chrissy.

Nikki and Jf saw this sweet girl, apparently she was so nervous or
scared her teeth were chattering like a little kid that was cold.
It breaks my heart. Please Don't let this girl die in the shelter
she is on the "AT RISK" list.
