    blue.

I wish I could say that these last two weeks have been better, but I am beginning to think something funky is going on with the universe. My friend Jf says it is all the negative energy that has been put out to the world, it is finally coming back. I just don't understand why affecting the people that are good people. Hard working, loving, exceptional people that don't deserve to be beaten over the head with harsh and more harsh reality. Courtney is having such a hard time without enri, a feeling of being lost without the one you have loved for so long. Another woman whom I admire deeply, although I have never met her, she is inspiration to me...she lost her loved one yesterday, Buzz.

  • I don't know, life feels so heavy. I wish for us all that we can remember what it is like to be a kid again, that lightness...
But...we are not kids, we can only find that light in our inner strength to love and live.

I got into a conversation with a friend the other night, it came to me ...do most people feel this way? he couldn't understand why we take the hard to place animals when there are so many out there that could be placed quickly without all the money spent. That never crossed my mind, the ones we are drawn to are the ones that nobody else wants ...for some reason. Would you get rid or euthanize your autistic child or a child that was born without a limb or had a few problems...maybe some might not want to deal with it, but then there is the love of a parent who will do anything and love you no matter what. maybe we think of these "problem furchildren" as our very own, but doesn't everyone need somebody to love them and believe in them.

In muttscouts news this week, we (minus me) were on Animal Planet doing a new show called petfinder. it should be airing in January with Miss Sonya as the doggie star!

Love your dogs today, a hug can help both ways...

I am sending everyone white light energy, maybe if we put more kindness and love out to the world it will reciprocate.

    crossing the bridge

I sit here this morning writing in tears. Enri passed this morning at 5am. She just was not doing well and she bled out. The sun rose as Enri lay in Courtney's arms. My heart aches as if Enri were my own. She lived an amazing 11 years, Courtney loved that girl more than anything and they were just the perfect match. I keep hoping my dogs will live forever. I know I am in rescue where death happens alot, I still don't handle it well, whether it be natural or caused. My friends heart is aching, but I guess this is the natural cycle of life...coming in and going out. T her other pup knows what is going on...they will get through this.

Enri we love you and you will be deeply missed. The other side will be good to you...never ending treats and lots of grass to roll in. One day we all will be together again.

    Enri forever loved.

I am keeping Enri's chipin widget up for a while to help pay for the cost while she was at the Vet or if anyone wants to donate towards a cremation piece for her ashes.
I am also putting together a care package for her, if anyone wants to contribute anything for Courtney and T. let me know.

    long day

today was a very long day, i will note you on it tomorrow. However, I wanted to give you an update on Enri. Courtney called me very worried yesterday, as Enri had jaundice and was just pouring out blood. She has IMHA or AIHA (same thing) it is
autoimmune hemolytic anemia it can be common in older dogs. I can't stress enough (note to self as well) how important it is to get yearly blood work done on your pups. Luckily, Enri is alive today and has stabilized and she has been eating a bit, which is great news. always good when they eat. We are so beyond greatful for the donations for Enri, I know we may not get to 1000 but anything We can offer to Courtney for Enri is so appreciated. Courtney couldn't believe the generosity and kindness of people.
I will find out the name of the vet tomorrow so donations can be made directly as well.
no picture or inspiration today. Will save that for tomorrow.

Enri~ hold on little one...you can make it

(enri on the right & her brother T on the left)

    ************
    (courtney and Enri)

I am worried. Have been all night. My Friend Courtney who is one of the strongest women I have known for years called me in a frenzy of worry about her Enri. She has had enri for 11 years, I have know enri many of those years. Enri wasn't acting right, she wouldn't eat dinner which is a first EVER, enri always wants to eat. On their evening walk, she didn't want to walk but kept lying down, her stomach was a little bloated as well. She called me panicking, we decided it best to watch her over night and to see if she ate breakfast, if not take her in immediately to the vet. well...this morning, she called me breaking down, enri was urinating blood. The vet wants to run tests, she left her at the vet and within that time the only thing they could find was that she was anemic, but did not know why she was urinating such high levels of blood. She could bleed out if this isn't solved. They want to run more tests, but this has already costs her 400.oo. i am worried about my friend. The low end of these estimates is 2200.00 and the high end is 3300.00. my friend doesn't have this money. i know what it is like to have your dog's life on the line, but have no way to pay it, nothing. She is not one to ask for help, i am giving it to her anyways, she is drowning in worry, panick, frustration and tears. i will try and post more pics of enri and an estimate, but I am asking my friends for help,my community...to help my friend courtney ....to help keep Enri alive. This is Urgent. i am giving her money, it may not be much, but i can forgo my weeks coffee run to help save a life. I am never one to ask for help for my own person, but when it comes to the animals, I will do anything or ask anything.
    Please help enri.

    plant some seeds...

Good job Nikki! She networked Princesa and today at 2:15 she was adopted by a private party, after months of being in the shelter.

It looks like we might be moving again, but this will be a transitional move. Through much confusion and frustration a discussion came about today that made sense. So I will keep you updated. We are not giving up on the farm journey.
and OH MY GOODNESS!! I know this is something that probably people don't ...well, like to hear about. But my dogs will not stop tooting today. I gave them carrots and jeez, I just can't escape the smell and if I move well...they follow me. I just don't know what to do. I need a mask. haha! a good chuckle was needed after today. I found out my brother was in a terrible car accident and almost didn't make it. My poor dad, he has taken on the weight of the world this week. Such a great guy! He also looks like a shar-pei puppy. I know you probably think that is rude to compare one to a dog, but i compare most people and things to dogs, so really in my eyes it is a compliment-given how much I LOVE dogs.
the website has been redone today. very long day. so Please check it out.

  • be kind. to animals. to people. to your family.
I almost lost my brother today, it made me realize how little I speak to my family, how little
I tell them I love them. Tell your family you love them, maybe they just need to feel special and your smile
or your love can do just that.

    URGENT!! Princesa needs out now!

(post and pictures by Nikki Audet)

Princesa was dumped at the shelter for being "too old"- very underweight and neglected Princesa has obviously spent her life ignored -left in the yard.

    PRINCESA - ID#A157797

My name is Princesa and I am an unaltered female, black and tan German Shepherd Dog mix.
The shelter thinks I am about 12 years old.
I have been at the shelter since May 30, 2007

When I took her out of her cage to photograph her, she got so excited that someone was paying any attention to her. She acted like a young puppy jumping up and down and smiling from ear to ear!
She is a gorgeous, well-behaved dog that has a beautiful spirit. A spirit that has never been able to shine through.

    tripod love

wow! two posts in one day...well, yes! I am on the computer 18 hours out of a 24 day, haha! EEK! but I was reading through my blogs just now. I am having a really hard day, but I was reading Lulu's blog
  • I Heart Tripods

  • and it was nearly a year ago that her leg was removed. She has been such a trooper through all the doc. appts. and her mom has been so amazing in spreading awareness about dog cancer and telling Lulu's story. Lulu is just inspiring to me today. If she can get through cancer, having a leg removed and living as a tripod....she gives me strength...to get through this. I know most people don't compare their life or experiences to that of an animal, but that is what I know...that is how I see things, how I live.
Life has been so heavy, nothing could make me laugh or even crack a smile. But today, my little mutts made me laugh so hard...I cried. I love my dogs beyond words, all of them~sally, liesel, birdie, millie, ansli, edi, & conrad the boy. I think I need them more than they need me. Saying all of this, go read about Lulu. I am so inspired and know that I can get through anything. Life may not be peaches all the time, there might be hurt, but leap through it. Your alive.
Yes, these last and next few posts might be on inspiration, but I think we can all use some of that sometimes. Be inspired today. who inspires you? in my other blog, I try to list at least five things a day that make me happy and inspire me, not matter how blue I feel. It helps one realize...life isn't such a bitch. Appreciate what is in front of you, as Cesar millan would say. Live in the present.
Please check out Lulu's blog, buy a shirt, donate and appreciate her being alive and let her inspire you today!

    friends...

I forgot to post this earlier, my friend/rescue partner Jf. sent me this today. It cheered me up, putting a smile on my face.

I hope it does the same for you.
    also for more smiles, visit:
    cute overload

    the monkey and the pigeon

They're an odd couple in every sense but a monkey and a pigeon have become inseparable at an animal sanctuary in China.

The 12-week-old macaque - who was abandoned by his mother - was close to death when it was rescued on Neilingding Island, in Goangdong Province.

After being taken to an animal hospital his health began to improve but he seemed spiritless - until he developed a friendship with a white pigeon.

The blossoming relationship helped to revive the macaque who has developed a new lease of life, say staff at the sanctuary.

Now the unlikely duo are never far from each other's side, but they aren't the only ones to strike up an unusual friendship.

Earlier this year a pig adopted a tiger cub and raised him along with her piglets because his mother couldn't feed him.

And in 2005 a baby dear named Mi-Lu befriended lurcher Geoffrey at the Knowsley Animal Park in Merseyside after she was rejected by her mother.

news! news!! we have some news!!!

well...Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS! to Nikki & Johnny! They got married on the 7th of September. It only took 10 years! haha! YeaH!!!

also we are collecting things for a tag sale to raise money for the girls. If you have any stuff to donate, please contact us!! or if you don't have stuff, but still want to donate their chipin's are on the right of the page. We are so appreciative and greatful for everyone's kindness for helping these girls!

    lovely farrah

  • the mutt scouts-farrah

  • If you have any questions about Farrah and/or her Surgery, please feel free to contact us at:
    adoptions@themuttscouts.com
also...donations can be made directly to the vet.
Farrah is also looking for a furever home! If interested in this sweet girl, contact the email above.

    (her right foot)

Raising money for the girls has been slow going, but we are so greatful to the people that have donated. I am hoping my camera has video on it as I would like us to post a stream of how they walk, so people could understand how important this is. It is painful for me to watch both of them walk, yet their problems are so different. We want to get Farrah's front leg done first, that is one that will need the fusion, it is like not having a wristbone almost, which makes her walk rotating from shoulder to shoulder and then her backend is also needing surger, eek!. I feel so bad for her, her life has not been a bucket of roses, she was dumped at the shelter b/c her people were having a New Years Eve party and Farrah would cower, she was scared. So they couldn't be bothered by her, to help her and top it all off, the reason for all these injuries...she had been hit by a car and they didn't bother to take her to get care, they pain she must have felt. AND THEN to the shelter...the most terrifying place of all especially being a plain red dog...with injuries. thank god for nikki's love and persistence for this girl. Farrah has not come this far NOT to live a normal life. she has been coming out of her shell, being around other dogs and being socialized at her foster home. Please help us give Farrah a chance at walking and living like a normal, happy dog should.

yeah!! estimates for sally and farrah

***Donations can also be made directly to the vet for sally & farrah***
    contact: adoptions@themuttscouts.com for details

(click on image to make larger)

    so basically...
farrah flops around like a jellyfish when she walks. It is not a pleasant site, as it looks painful. she has carpal total arthrodesis which requires a fusion in the joint , she also has an anterior cruciate which is torn. These are not pleasant procedures and we really need to raise the money for her to get these surgeries. She can only have one at a time as they are intensive and expensive.
Sally has stage 4 Luxating Patella which is a severe knee problem and stage 4 is the worst. it has caused her back legs to bow out so far and she can't bend them, they have locked in some sorts. she walks very slow like a turtle and has to rest often, it is not comfortable.

    midnight moons and sunlight kisses

Thank you everyone so much for donating for Sally and Farrah, every bit counts, I promise the estimates will be posted soon, i am writing the person as we speak!.
    Your donations means so much!
Sally has been making me laugh so much, I have never seen a dog with a smile ALL THE TIME. and when she is more happy than usual, she turns on her back and squiggles her butt like a floor happy dance. She is the easiet girl to care for, doesn't make a PEEP and loves to sleep in...she can sleep through anything. I know she will find the best home, she is worth every penny spent. I can't wait until her legs are fixed, to see her walk normal...there aren't words for that.

Also thank you everyone for your kind words about my troublesome journey. I had the best intentions for this, but...this is not the place. I am just praying the universe open us a place soon in L.A...but your words have meant the world to me. Thank You.
