it's a pack
well Miss Sonya decided a couple days ago she was ready to be a pack dog. I think her and Edi were twins separated at birth. They LOVE each other, they are also the exact same size and color. haha! she is so well behaved and potty trained, she has not gone in the house once.
Lugosi has a meet today with a potential adopter, so we will see how that goes.
I leave in a week. It is getting harder every day, but we are trying to think positive.

thank you!
thank you to everyone that has and is donating for Sonya!
I wanted to give everyone an update on Sonya, the Boxer mix we
> rescued on Tuesday.
> She is staying at Terrah's house and is enjoying being out of that
> little cage she was stuck in for so long. Terrah is feeding her
> home cooked meals and basically spoiling her rotten!!
> Slowly, every day, Sonya is coming out of her shell- She is
> already wagging her tail and coming up for petting. She is still
> very fearful but it looks very promising that she will overcome
> this with a little time & a little love.
> Thursday Sonya went to our vet for x rays as her legs are in bad
> shape. The vet was stumped as to what it might be and it is
> definitely not easily diagnosed.
> On the x rays it looks as though there is damage to the spine -
> right on the same spot that there was a tire mark on her back.
> Our vet will consult a radiologist to make sure there is not a
> tumor that may be pressing on the spinal column and will call us on
> Monday. Otherwise it looks to be a neurological disorder/damage.
>
> In the meantime we will be making an appt. to see a neurologist at
> California Animal Hospital.
> I will keep you updated as soon as we know more.
> Terrah and I wanted to thank you all for donating towards her
> care which enabled us to pull her out of the shelter on the day she
> was to be euthanized.
> We have a huge soft spot for the special needs dogs and would not
> be able to help them without the amazing help from all of you. And
> a special thanks to Rita for spending all day Tuesday sending out
> Sonya's plea and bringing everyone together to help Sonya. We
> would hate to think what the animals of L.A would do without her.
>
>
> Thank you!!!

over and out.
We took Sally and Sonya to the vet yesterday, I just LOVE Dr Bernstein. he is so great and thorough. Sally has Stage 4 luxating patella which is the worst it can get, her kneecaps are locked and she can't walk. NOT a good situation we are going to to take Farrah there as she has a torn cruciating ligament. So we just need to fundraise 2200 for sally alone. arg! and sonya....well, he took the x-rays and he couldn't tell us for sure. He will have his radiologist look at them on monday. It is right where the tire mark hit that the problem lies and also a few spinal noches down. It might be an infection which will require months and months of antibiotics or it could be neurological which would mean seeing a specialist and more test. oh my goodness! I am trying not to let this money stress me out. Farrah is first. she has a cruciating ligament among other problems in her front legs, then sally and well sonya depends...need see how much total money was raised and the tests she will need. I just don't want her to be in pain or uncomfortable. however, she has waggled her tail and crinkles her nose because she is so happy to see me. i have fallen for this girl. Nikki says, I do this with all the dogs. but there is something so special about her, she reminds me of my ansli and edi that special spirit they have.
So much on my mind right now, I will just leave you with an update of these two gals, we should know more of sonya after the weekend and sally's estimate should be ups soon.

Sonya Lover
Today was an extremely long day. We got up so early to go the the vet appt at 9:00 an hour later STILL waiting. NO GOOD. so we left, had other appts. such a waste of a time. spent afternoon on phone and emails, called in sick to work and ....with the hard work of everyone Sonya is a free pup. Rita was so amazing today, we could not have done it without her. The stress and relief of today was a little too much, but the most important thing is a little life was spared and is resting peacefully on a huge, comfy bed with a very full belly of fresh meat and rice. She is scared, but she knows she is safe. She is the quietest little girl, she hasn't made a peep and she hasn't wanted to move off the bed since we got home. Her legs are really bad. it is like a dog crouching under a car about to run for it, except her legs never stretched out. She is in really bad shape with those cripply legs, but we have an appt on thurs. with her and Sally. That is our new name the luxating patella rescue group. haha~ just kidding how is it the last 4 dogs we rescued have the same thing and oh! so expensive. i am trying not to stress, but that is not working so well. My camera is not working (which is a whole other level of stress) but I will try to take some more freedom pics of sonya and we will update her situation after the vet appt.
Thank you beyond words to everyone that came through on their word and donated and care for Sonya. She is worth it. Every bit!

annie
So today Annie went to her forever home! Just amazing I say...Such a cute couple and they have another Cattle dog named Ranger. that is great, because they are familiar with the herding and energy levels of that breed mix. I will miss that girl, we bonded pretty strongly the last few days. She is just so smart, I am sure my dogs won't miss annie herding them all the time though. haha!
Good Luck miss annie! we will miss you!!

these are pics from Stanley's new mom. i don't cry...but i am in tears. I love this dog, he is all I have thought about for months. I wanted so much to make him my own, but my was full, and seeing how this all turned out. Him in the greatest home, I could not have asked for anything better for him. He deserves this. Thank you so much Mare.
this is a post form Mare about her trip home with Stanley
Hey everyone!! So I just got back w/ Stanley not too long ago we were stuck in traffic for 4 hrs trying to get home, but he was sooo good he just laid across the front 2 seats on my lap. As soon as we got him here we let him check out the back yard, alone, and then he had his first bath in I think forever! After that he had a huge dinner w/ some chicken/rice thrown in...his daddy is already spoiling him. Then we intriduced him to his very large family and foster family....everyone is getting along great!! He just follows me around and when I sit on the ground next to him he pushes his head under my arm for a hug...my husband says that he thinks stanley knows I saved him and that he looks sooo much better now a bit more settled in, fed and bathed then when he first arrived. Currently he is sleeping all sprawled out on the floor right next to the bed where I am. We are gonna fatten him up really good b/c the poor guy is soooo skinny. We're gonna make a vet appt. this week to get his nails trimmed, they look like claws, and have the vet give him a good thorough check-up. Thank you all for the support, my husband gets deployed tomm. and money is tight so I really appreciate that you guys sent me money to get this guy taken care of,,,it means so much to us, really! I esp. wanna thank rose and terah and gina for all they did, you guys are so great...I don't know if I can adopt out this guy, he has stolen my heart!!! Here's some pics. of stanely in the car, asleep on my lap, bath-time and w/ his new foster sister......thanks so much!!!

day in...day out...
what a day. we went to see sonya again. I bought this huge cake trying to kind of bribe the staff, but the shelter was not reassuring at all!...but we were hoping this would buy her a little more time. we need to find her a FOSTER. she still looked so worried...I don't blame her. She isn't safe, even with our names on her. going on 7 days red listed, they don't have to contact us before they kill her. I feel extremely worried about this. Our pleas don't seem to be covering much ground, at least by raising money or a foster. I won't let her die, I just won't. Nikki feels the same way. Stanley was rescued today. ha! I have had those photos of him for Months, but i was nervous to post them, b/c some big dog rescues aren't so good and i didn't want them to take him, but it came down to the wire and he became red listed and with ONE DAY he got out after being in the shelter since may. Mare is so amazing for taking him. I just felt like crying all day, b/c of well happiness and stress. Labfreak was so great too, I just can't believe he is out. I wish it were going that easy for Sonya. If annie gets adopted this week, I wish I could say I could take her, but I really need to take sally from Nikki. she needs some relief. Foster homes aren't coming so easy these days. But all in all, alot was done today in one form or another. Things always have a way of working itself out. Thank you to Doug for donating for sonya, that is just truly amazing. thank you for coming through on your word. I am tired, I hope this post even makes sense, just so much happening today.

well my old man Stanley jumped to the red list this week. I love this boy, I first met him at the old east valley, he was TERRIFIED. He wouldn't move, and for good reason. this mean doberman was terrorizing him and his kennelmate. The doberman attacked Stanley's kennelmate and they both fell and wrestled ONTOP of this poor old man. Stanley doesn't even have any teeth to defend himself at any point. So the fight ended and Stanley was shaking so hard, I thought he was going to drop and have a heart attack. He just stared at me and wouldn't move, his back legs almost gave out from terror. It broke my heart. Thank goodness this nice staff member came and brought him a soft blanket. Now Stanley is at the New facility waiting, depressed and not doing well in the shelter. He knows he is older, toothless and a big black dog without a chance. It is so sad, because when I bring him treats he perks up and gets so excited.
Please don't let stanley die alone, in terror at the shelter. He deserves more in his old age to have a big bed, cuddles and as many treats as his belly can hold.
Stanley is URGENT and RED LISTED

sonya
**************************
so I sent this letter to a lovely blog reader that might donate for Sonya, I thought I would post it here, b/c it says more about her. I am starting to worry...I hope this works out, I won't let her die. We just won't. I don't know what it is lately with these leg problem dogs we keep getting. We have 5000 to raise for Farrah, and she is in Pain and not doing so well. Sally can't even walk. we need 4000 for her and Francie's other leg which is 1200. It is just so much money. There has to be more ways to raise this money, I just need our brains to get past the Holy Crap that is a lot of money , what are we going to do part. Maybe start an ebay for the Muttscouts where people could send in unwanted things for us to sale to raise money. Dunno, will have to think on it.
LET'S GET SONYA OUT~ NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES. that is what I think. nothing is impossible, right?!
so more on Sonya....the letter
we went to the shelter yesterday (all day,
eek) to assess sonya some more, to get a better idea of her legs, behavior
etc...OMG she is so amazing. as terrified and worried as she is, she
didn't try to bite or do anything, which is great. we took her outside to
let her relax and bought her some hamburgers. she was to shy to eat in
front of us, we took alot more pics. she did have a tire mark on her back
from getting run over, but we think ( of course we are not vets) but her
legs might be a pre-existing condition. she is walking like 3 dogs that we
have now (waiting for surgery) so at least it is not her spine or
something like that, and she is eating so the pain must not be too bad. We
are networking trying to raise funds for another reputable rescue to take
her, or if we can get a foster and medical covered...we might can take
her. it is so hard already having 3 dogs in need of surgery. but she is so
amazing and so well behaved. I hated putting her back in the cage. she
looks like boxer/shep mix and little she is, only 38 lbs. so if you like,
you can paypal the money on my blog and we can hold it and put it towards
the other monies. We are putting out another plea with more pics we took
yesterday, time is of the essence. they say even if your name is on a dog,
if it has been red-listed over a week, they can put it down at anytime, so
we are trying to move fast.
